Ebbisham is Surrey Sports Club of the Year 2009
In June of this year, following the Surrey Youth Games, for second year in a row, Ebbisham was awarded the Charlie Steer Shield by the Epson and Ewell Council for being the most supportive club within the borough. Subsequently they also put Ebbisham forward for a Surrey Sports Award and after being shortlisted, on 9 October Kevin Moore accepted the trophy on our behalf at a ceremony in Bagshot.
In addition, one of our young squash coaches, Chris Matthews, was runner-up in the Volunteer of the year category.

SURREY SPORTS AWARDS 2009 - SPORTS CLUB OF THE YEAR
This award is for the sports club that has:
- attained Clubmark, or are actively working towards it;
- a proven track record of working with schools, local authorities and other community organisations;
- affiliated to the relevant National Governing Body;
- evidence of a commitment to effective recruitment, recognition and training;
- a senior and junior section;
- provided sporting opportunities for all;
- Shared ideas and best practice with other sports clubs.
Ebbisham Sports Club - WINNER
Ebbisham Sports Club is a successful and supportive club in Epsom that consists of three sections badminton, squash and tennis. All three sections have gained Clubmark and the badminton section has also recently been awarded with Badminton England Performance Centre status. Ebbisham Sports Club has many links with the local community, providing the site for many youth and community projects. The club is also committed to developing coaches and officials who, in turn, often support these projects. The club has a junior and senior section for the three sports and strives to offer a high quality and friendly environment for all.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
This award is for a coach, official, administrator or general helper who has:
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to a sport or club;
- made a tremendous impact on a club or organisation through volunteering;
- shown a commitment to personal development, team working and supporting the development of other volunteers.
Chris Matthews – Ebbisham Sports Club - Runner-up
Chris started helping out at Ebbisham Sports Club when he studied for his Community Sports Leader Award. He liked it so much he stayed on and is now a qualified Level 1 assistant coach and he mentors other volunteers and young people at the club. Chris has been volunteering for the Surrey Youth Games for many years and this year showed great commitment and enthusiasm by stepping in to support the squash team as Epsom & Ewell Team Manager. He helped the club to cover all training sessions, completed all the necessary administration work and volunteered his time during the weekend of the Games. Chris has shown great commitment to his continual professional development.
