TOURNAMENT REPORT
EBBISHAM SPORTS CLUB in Epsom, Surrey, held its inaugural Adult Graded Tournament, with B1/B2 and C1/C2 grades on Saturday 14th January and D1/D2 and E1/E2 grades on Sunday 15th January 2006, sponsored by SABRE.
It was originally touch-and-go as to whether it would go ahead as, with only 2 days until entry deadline date, we had only received 5 entries!!! But, with some cajoling and a number of pleading telephone calls, the numbers slowly rose to 42 - 10 in B1/B2 grade, 12 in C1/C2, 12 in D1/D2 and 8 in E1/E2 grade.
There were 26 entrants from Ebbisham and the rest were from other Clubs such as Abbotsley (Cambs), Aylesbury (Bucks), Canterbury & Rodmersham (Kent), Coulsdon Manor, Dolphin Leisure (Sussex), Dragons Northwood (Middx), Epsom College, New Malden, St. Georges Hill, Surbiton, and Wimbledon R&FC.
All players had at least 3 or 4 matches (best of 3, American scoring PAR to 11) with the 4 top scorers going through to the Semi-Finals (best of 3) and then the Finals (best of 3) in each Grade, followed immediately by Presentation of Trophies and Sabre squash bags to all finalists.
Although it was pretty exhausting for everyone having all their matches over a few hours on just one day, it meant that it didn't take up their whole weekend so we will probably repeat this same format next year, but perhaps increase the 'maximum' numbers (if necessary) for each Grade to 15-16, or split the Grades into B1, B2, C1, etc.
Finally, a few words of thanks to:-

- CHALLENGE TROPHIES OF NORTH CHEAM who supplied the engraved marble trophies for Winners and Runners-u
- Club Bar staff and particularly Joyce & Sean Mooney of Hospitality Plus Caterers for their tasty meals
- and, last but by no means least, to the entrants themselves (especially the 26 supportive Ebbisham Members!) who all turned up and made it run without a hitch!
