2009 Club Championships
These were played from mid May with the finals taking place on Saturday 18 July.
The men’s singles proved the highlight of the day. Defending champion Euan Barrett (21) was taken to the wire by up and coming star Chris Graham (still only 15). During a see-saw match which kept the spectators glued to their seats Euan held his nerve to come from a set down to win 2-1.
The day was rounded off with an Indian meal and dancing to Jeff ‘double-decks’ disco.

Han Cup
The annual Han tournament was held on 28 March. Despite the cold, blustery weather we had a good turnout. After a closely fought contest and two play-off matches, Gill Futcher and Euan Barret emerged as winners.

Farewell to Terry Harding
Terry retired as club coach after 12 years, giving his final coaching session on 29 March. He was extremely popular with all his pupils, junior and adult alike. As well as passing on skills, he instilled a love of the game and many of his juniors have moved on to join the seniors with great success; the last three men’s singles champions have come from the ranks of Terry’s juniors. Al his friends at Ebbisham wish him well in his retirement.
Terry and his wife were guests of honour at the Chinese dinner held following the Han tournament. Marion was presented with a bouquet of flowers and Terry with a number of gifts, including a sports shirt bearing the Ebbisham logo, some golf balls and a cheque.

The ball's in your court!
If you're looking for a tennis partner that will sharpen your skills, build your
confidence, and raise the level of your game, then why not try out Ebbisham’s new Tennis Tutor?
Allow me to introduce you …. the mains powered Tennis Tutor includes a built-in, two-function wireless remote control. The remote unit lets you start and stop ball delivery. The remote also allows you to
control the oscillator motor. This permits you to change the side-to-side position of the ball throws from the other side of the court. You can put any degree of topspin or underspin [controlled by a simple dial] to
help you replicate exact type of shot that your opponents are throwing at you. Whether you're a competitive player looking to improve your game or just enjoy playing tennis, this ball machine makes the ideal tennis partner. So, get the Tennis Tutor advantage today (before your opponent does).
What you need to know if you want to try it out:
- The machine can be used on court no 1 only.
- It is powered from an outside socket near the patio doors
- £5 per hour or £3 for ½ hour, payable over the bar
- Turn up and play, or if you wish to reserve the machine in advance, write your name and ‘ball machine’ in the appropriate slot on the tennis court booking sheet
- Apply to a member of staff for access to the machine.
