Ebbisham recently celebrated its 80th anniversary. Celebrations included four events.
Friday, 23rd June saw a Squash Champions Exhibition Evening featuring 6 Ebbisham Squash Champions past and present. Over 30 people enjoyed the skilful and exciting squash matches
On Saturday, 1ST July, Ebbisham hosted its 80TH Anniversary Grand Open Day. Over 250 members and the local community enjoyed free sports tasters and coaching sessions, a filmed World Record Badminton Most Participants in a Longest Rally attempt was organised to get into the Guinness Book of Records. Unfortunately it failed but 131 people had great fun trying. The Mayor of Epsom & Ewell, Councillor Liz Frost visited the club and displayed her badminton prowess whilst taking part in the world record attempt. A special 80th Anniversary menu was provided by Club Chef, Sharon of Ching’s Kitchen.
On the same evening an 80th anniversary members’ & guests’ party took place at which 200 Members and their guests were treated to either hog roast or curries. The Grand Raffle Draw raised over £460 for the Club’s chosen charity for 2017, the Special Baby Care Unit at Epsom Hospital. The evening also included music through the decades from the T-Set Band and a fun Casino.
On the Sunday the Club staged its first-ever 80TH Anniversary Team Doubles Racketlon where teams of 2, 3 or 4 players chose at least 2 out of 4 sports to play doubles in pairs – table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis. Teams were organised into three sections (competitive, social and juniors) and each team played 3 rounds in 3 round-robin groups. 31 members took part and there were special 80th anniversary trophies and medals presented at the end.
